Introduction

아늑함이 가득한 어느 실내의 나무 선반 사이로 항아리, 주전자, 찻잔, 그릇 등이 무심한 듯 놓여있다. 일상에서 작고 평범한 사물들에 지나지 않은 그들 위로 아주 섬세한 빛의 입자들이 내려앉자, 저마다의 물성들을 조심스레 드러내며 자신의 존재를 속삭이는 듯한 오묘함에 이끌려 그림 앞으로 조금 더 가까이 다가가 본다. 아주 얇게 여러 번 쌓아 올린 물감 층위 사이로 스며든 빛이 화면 전체에 안온한 공기의 흐름을 만들어낸다. 고요한 온기가 가득한 화면 속에서 마주친 창문 너머 숲의 풍경은 마치 이야기 속에 펼쳐진 현실과 환상의 경계처럼 갑작스럽지만 자연스럽다.

이번 전시에서 소개하는 정임정 작가는 올해 4월 브리즈 아트페어 개최 당시, 잘 알려지지 않은 신진 작가임에도 많은 작품이 판매되어 큰 주목을 받은 바 있다. 작가는 따뜻하고 부드러운 나뭇결이 잘 드러나는 패널 위에 유화를 사용하여 일상의 사물들을 공들여 관찰하고 그려냄으로 평범함 속에 깃든 특별한 가치와 의미들에 대해 사유하도록 우리를 이끈다.

“미술은 보이는 것을 표현하는 것이 아니라 그 어떤 것을 보이게 하는 것이다.”라는 현대 회화의 선구자, 파울 클레(Paul Klee)의 말처럼 한 장의 그림, 그 정지된 화면 속에서 우리가 경험하게 되는 것은 가시적으로 잘 드러나지 않는 현실의 숨겨진 질서와 리듬, 그리고 삶을 바라보는 다양한 시선일 것이다. 본 전시를 통해 디지털 시대에 마주하는 수많은 이미지의 자극에서 잠시 벗어나 우리 안에 예술을 통한 감성적 교감과 울림을 경험하는 기회가 되기를 희망한다.

Amid the warm, inviting interior, jars, teapots, cups, and bowls rest casually upon wooden shelves, their placement seeming effortless. Though these objects may appear to be simple, unremarkable elements of everyday life, the delicate fall of light upon them reveals their quiet essence, as if they are softly whispering their existence. Drawn by this quiet allure, we find ourselves stepping closer to the painting. The light, seeping through the thinly layered brushstrokes, fills the canvas with a serene flow of air. Within this tranquil warmth, we encounter a view of the forest beyond the window—sudden yet seamless, like the boundary between reality and fantasy unfolding in a story.

In this exhibition, we present the works of artist Jung Im Jung, who garnered significant attention during the Breeze Art Fair in April of this year. Despite being a relatively unknown emerging artist, many of her pieces were sold, marking her as a rising talent. With oil paints on panels that beautifully showcase the soft, warm texture of wood grain, she meticulously observes and captures everyday objects, guiding us to contemplate the extraordinary value and meaning nestled within the ordinary.

As the modern painting pioneer Paul Klee once remarked, “Art does not reproduce what is visible; rather, it makes visible.” In a single painting, within its stillness, we experience the hidden rhythms and order of reality, as well as the many ways of seeing life. It is our hope that this exhibition offers a momentary escape from the relentless flood of digital imagery and provides a chance to rediscover the profound resonance and connection that only art can evoke.
