소에다 나나는 현대 자본주의 사회에 대한 비판적인 시선을 다양한 형상으로 치환하여 표현한다. 우리가 살아가는 사회 구조 가운데에서 ‘소외되는 존재’와 닮은 꼴로, 아시아의 상점가 곳곳에서 발견할 수 있는 ‘마스코트 캐릭터’에서 영감을 받은 작품인 ‘Past memories(昔の記憶)’ 시리즈는, 세계적으로 유명한 마스코트 캐릭터들 사이에서도 위계질서가 존재한다는 점을 포착하여 현대 자본주의 사회에서 많은 사람들이 권위에 종속되고 서열화되어가는 모습을 빗대어 표현하였다. 글로벌 마스코트들이 자신들만의 서열을 가지며 최상위에 존재한다면, 자신의 마스코트는 서열 최하위에 있다는 것을 상상하며 그러한 마스코트에 반항적인 정신을 중첩 시켜 작품에 반영하고자 한 것이다. 또다른 작품 시리즈 중 하나인 ‘Capitol dog’는 자본주의에 희생된 또 다른 존재의 모습을 조명한다. 반려동물로서의 ‘개’는 인간에게 사랑과 애정을 가져다 주는 존재이지만, 오늘날 우리는 자본주의의 희생물로서 인공 번식을 빈번하게 목격하게 된다. 이렇게 판매의 목적으로 사육된 반려 동물들은 사랑스러운 외모와는 대조적으로 신체적인 부담을 안고 태어나게 된다. 작가는 이런 인공적인 동물을 주제로 삼아, 작품안에서 만큼은 그러한 신체적 부담이 정상으로 받아들여지는, 부정적인 감정을 갖지 않고 그 자체로 바라볼 수 있는 존재로 표현되기를 소망한다.

Soeda Nana expresses a critical view of contemporary capitalist society through various forms. In her 'Past memories(昔の記憶)' series, inspired by mascot characters commonly found in Asian markets, she portrays figures resembling 'excluded beings' within our societal structures. By highlighting the hierarchical order even among globally famous mascots, she critiques how many individuals in capitalist societies become subordinated and ranked under authority. Imagining her own mascot occupying the lowest rank amidst these global mascots, she layers resonant themes into her artworks. Another series, 'Capitol Dog’, sheds light on another entity sacrificed by capitalism. Dogs, as pets, bring love and affection to humans. However, today we witness frequent artificial breeding for commercial purposes. These pets, despite their adorable appearances, are born with physical burdens. Soeda Nana uses this theme of artificially bred animals to portray beings within her artworks who, despite their physical burdens, she hopes can be viewed without negative emotions, as beings accepted as normal in their own right.
