서울옥션엑스는 초록으로 치장하는 나무, 하나둘 피어오르는 꽃, 봄이 다가오고 있음을 알리는 변화, 곧 펼쳐질 2024년의 춘경에 앞서 미리 봄의 정취를 느낄 수 있는 이왈종, 하태임 작가의 《새봄 Spring Splendor》 전시를 선보입니다.

이왈종(b.1945~)은 제주의 일상을 그리는 작가로 섬의 풍광과 그곳에 발을 디딘 사람들의 하루를 펼쳐 보입니다. 서귀포 바닷바람을 맞으며 완성된 이왈종 작가의 작품은 천진하고, 제주도와 닮았습니다. 그의 작품은 국내외에서 높은 평가를 받으며, 국전 문화공보부 장관상(1974), 한국 미술 작가상(1991), 월전 미술상(2001) 등을 수상한 바 있습니다. 이왈종은 30년간 제주도의 서귀포에서 활동하며 '중도' 시리즈를 이어오고 있습니다. '중도(中道)'란 불교 사상에서의 중도 세계를 의미하며, 그의 작품은 자연과 인간을 하나로 보고 집착을 버리는 삶의 지혜를 담고 있습니다. 제주도의 정취와 유머를 작품으로 전달함으로써 많은 이들에게 긍정과 위로를 전하고자 합니다.

하태임(b.1973~)의 작품은 다채로운 색채들이 중첩되어 맑고 화사한 화면을 이루며, 그녀만의 독창적인 작품세계를 펼치고 있습니다. 작가는 자신의 팔을 이용하여 한 획을 그리고 물감이 마르기를 기다렸다가 그 위에 다시 획을 겹쳐 올립니다. 이 과정을 수차례 반복하여 조화로운 화면을 구성하는데, 이를 통해 언어와 문자가 아닌, 색채와 같은 순수한 시각 요소만으로도 소통이 가능하다는 것을 깨닫습니다. 이 과정에서 보여지는 다양한 색상의 코고 작은 곡선들은 보는 이들에게 율동적이면서 경쾌한 느낌을 전달합니다.

 

SeoulAuction X presents the "Spring Splendor" exhibition by Lee Walchong and Ha Taeim, who capture the essence of spring in anticipation of the upcoming Spring Festival in 2024. The trees adorned with vibrant green hues, flowers blooming one by one, and subtle changes heralding the arrival of spring.

Lee Walchong (b. 1945) is an artist who captures the daily life of Jeju Island, depicting the island's scenery and the lives of its inhabitants. Working amidst the sea breeze in Seoguipo, his art is pure and reminiscent of Jeju Island itself. His work is highly esteemed both domestically and internationally, earning him accolades such as the National Exhibition of Culture and Public Information Award (1974), the Korean Artist Award (1991), and the Woljeon Art Award (2001). For the past 30 years, Lee Walchong has been based in Seoguipo on Jeju Island, continuously creating the Jungdo series.  the middle world in Buddhist philosophy, embodying the wisdom of life that harmonizes nature and humanity while letting go of attachments. Through his art, Lee Walchong conveys Jeju's ambiance and humor, aiming to spread positivity and solace to many.

Ha Taeim's work creates a clear and vibrant screen by overlapping various colors, establishing her unique artistic world. The artist uses broad strokes with her arm, allowing the paint to dry before layering additional strokes on top. This iterative process results in a harmonious composition, revealing her belief that communication can be achieved solely through pure visual elements like colors, transcending the need for words or letters. The colorful, intertwining curves in her work convey a rhythmic and joyful sensation to viewers.
